Indiana Game Notes
November 4, 2006
• Redshirt freshman quarterback Kellen Lewis hit redshirt running back Demetrius McCray on a 43-yard scoring strike at the 6:36 mark in the second quarter. The TD catch was the first of McCray's career, and he became the fifth different Hoosier to record a receiving score this season.
• Lewis set a career high with 321 passing yards, 396 total yards, 25 completions and 43 attempts. The last time a Hoosier passed for 300 yards came on Oct. 15, 2005, when Blake Powers tossed for 360 yards at Iowa.
• Sophomore wide receiver James Hardy collected his ninth touchdown reception this season and the 19th of his career with a 48-yard grab at the 12:55 mark in the third quarter. With the score, Hardy moved into sole possession of third place on the school's career receiving touchdown chart and into sixth place by himself on the single-season touchdown list. Hardy now has eight touchdowns in his last four ballgames and 19 in 18 career contests.
• Hardy compiled 115 yards to net his second 100-yard game this season and the seventh of his career. The Fort Wayne, Ind., native is tied for third with former Hoosier great Jade Butcher on the career 100-yard list. Thomas Lewis is second with eight, while Ernie Jones holds the top spot with 10.
• McCray added a two-yard rushing score in with 2:17 remaining in the third quarter for his second career rushing TD and caught a 10-yard touchdown pass with 4:47 left in the fourth quarter to cap his first career multi-touchdown game.
• With his third touchdown pass of the afternoon, Lewis jumped into a share of fourth on the Hoosiers' single-season passing touchdown list with his 13th throwing strike this season. Lewis now has three multi-touchdown games this season. He has thrown 11 TD strikes and rushed for a pair of scores over the last four games.
• Hardy's touchdown marked Indiana's 14th scoring play over 20 yards and seventh touchdown reception over 20 yards this season.
• The Hoosiers broke the 100-yard rushing mark for the sixth time this season and the fifth time in their last six games.
•The Hoosiers started the same offensive line for the fourth consecutive game and the same defensive line for the fifth straight contest. Freshman left tackle Rodger Saffold, freshman left guard Pete Saxon, senior center Justin Frye, junior right guard John Sanberg and junior right tackle Charlie Emerson made up the offensive line. On the defensive front, redshirt freshman defensive end Jammie Kirlew, junior defensive tackle Joe Kremer, sophomore defensive tackle Greg Brown and senior defensive end Kenny Kendal received starting nods.
• Senior Justin Frye recorded his 43rd consecutive start on the Hoosier offensive line, starting at center for the sixth straight game. Frye has played all five positions on the IU offensive line in his career.
