10 Questions With Ofori Sarkodie

Freshman back Ofori Sarkodie earned a starting spot at center back halfway through the season. He was a unanimous selection to the Big Ten All-Freshman team, and has helped lead the Hoosiers to eight shutouts. Sarkodie sat down with IUHOOSIERS.com to answer a few questions about himself.
If you could visit anywhere in the world, where would you go and why?
I'd like to go back to Paris, France. I love the city. It's a beautiful place to be, there are lot of interesting sights and buildings and whatnot. It's got an old city and a new city. It's pretty interesting, and I like that.
Since coming to Indiana, I've learned:
Adversity builds character. You have to manage your time. There are going to be ups and downs some days. It's all part of maturing as a person, making mistakes, trial and error, and it's the way that you learn and become a mature person.
The best thing about Indiana is:
The campus. There are a lot of interesting people to meet. Everyone has a different story, a different background, a different culture. It's pretty interesting to meet new people.
What is your favorite soccer memory?
Scoring the opening goal against Italy in the under-17 World Cup in Peru last year.
The teammate I most admire is who, and why?
I have a lot of respect for Julian Dieterle. He brings a lot of intangible qualities to the team. The boys respect him, he works hard day in and day out, and he brings something to the table that nobody else can. So I respect him a lot.
Describe your presence on the field. What do you bring to the team?
I would like to think I bring composure. I bring a winning attitude, with excitement and fun, enjoying the game and playing the game the way it's supposed to be played. Just a winning attitude. I love to win.
What do you like to do when you're not playing soccer?
I like to play chess, I like chess a lot. I'm a video gamer. Other than that, reading Harry Potter. The whole series is good.
What's your favorite class and why?
Psychology. I like learning about the mind. Figuring out a little more about ourselves is pretty interesting.
Something that many people don't know about you is:
My grandmother is part of a royal family back in Kumasi, Ghana, so I am technically a prince. It's passed down on my mother's side.
Do you have a nickname that your teammates gave you? What is it and why?
They call me "O", because Ofori takes a while to pronounce.
