BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Senior defensive specialist Sara Diehl picked up her second-consecutive ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District V volleyball honor, the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced on Nov. 9. Diehl earned first team honors after being recognized on the third team during her junior season.
"I'm very pleased to hear the Sara was named Academic All-District," head coach Katie Weismiller said. "She has worked as hard in the classroom as she has on the court for the last four years and she has been a great role model with both aspects of her life. She is a captain of the volleyball team, and if you talk to anyone in the school of business, she is one of the top students in the school. I am not surprised at all that she would get an award like this."
The Bloomington native has seen action in 24 of IU's 26 matches this season and averages 2.77digs per match, second on the team. She also has 17 service aces on the year, tying her for the second-highest total on the team. Diehl has also made her mark on the IU record books during her career and currently stands 12th on the Hoosier digs list with 812. Earlier this season, Diehl tied her career high with 21 digs against Maryland on Sept. 2 and tied her career best with four service aces against Oakland on Aug. 26.
In addition to her now two All-District academic honors, the business major is a two-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree.
Diehl and the Hoosiers will continue the Big Ten season when they play host to Michigan State and Michigan in University Gym on Friday, Nov. 10, and Saturday, Nov. 11. Both matches are set to begin at 7 p.m. ET. The matchup with Michigan State will be televised on tape delay on Comcast SportsNet Chicago on Saturday, Nov. 11 at 4 p.m. ET.
