Hoosiers Participate with Youth National Teams

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Freshman defender Ofori Sarkodie and freshman midfielder Daniel Kelly were both selected to compete with the U.S. Youth National Teams at the Under-20 and Under-18 levels, respectively.
Sarkodie is one of 26 players who will participate in the U-20 training camp from Dec. 12-23 at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla. Sarkodie will be vying for one of 20 roster spots for the 2007 Confederation of North, Central American and Caribbean Association Football (CONCACAF) Final Round Qualifying Tournament, which will take place from Jan. 17-21 in Panama City, Panama. The top two teams in the tournament will qualify for the 2007 FIFA U-20 World Cup, held in Canada from June 30-July 22.
Sarkodie started 13 games in his inaugural campaign for the Hoosiers, and was named to the Big Ten All-Freshman Team. He helped Indiana to eight shutouts playing at center back. This past summer Sarkodie helped lead the U-20 National Team to second place at the 2006 Milk Cup in Northern Ireland on Aug. 4.
Kelly played with the U-18 team at the Nike Friendlies at IMG Academy from Dec. 8-10. Kelly started at midfield in both games as the U.S. played to a 0-0 draw with the U-17 National Team and fell 3-0 to the Brazilian U-17 National Team.
Kelly redshirted this past season for Indiana. He participated with the U-17 National Team at the 2005 FIFA World Cup in Peru.
Indiana completed its season with a 15-4-3 record.
