BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Senior midfielder Josh Tudela has been named to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) All-America third team.
Tudela is the 34th Hoosier to garner All-America honors. Indiana has had at least one All-American every year since 1996.
"I am very pleased that Josh has earned All-America honors," said head coach Mike Freitag. "He is a well-rounded player, and he makes everyone around him better. He is a leader and comes to train with a professional attitude every day. I never have to worry about him not showing up to train.
"He is the best example for his teammates. He knows the intensity that's necessary to train at and he knows the intensity to play at. He's instilled this work rate into him that makes him successful."
Tudela was named Big Ten Player of the Year in 2006. After redshirting his first year, he went on to start 83 of the 90 games that he played in for the Hoosiers. Tudela scored 11 goals and tallied 17 assists in his career. A team captain as a senior, he led the team in the midfield, and set up a number of goals several passes before the score. Tudela assisted on the game-winning goal against Ohio State in the Big Ten Championship title game in 2006.
As a junior, Tudela was named second-team All-Big Ten. His freshman year he was selected to the College Cup All-Tournament team.
Tudela completed his career at Indiana with two NCAA championships (2003 and 2004), two Big Ten Championships (2003 and 2006) and an overall record of 64-14-15.
He was recently invited to the Major League Soccer (MLS) Player Combine, held at Lockhart Stadium in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., Jan. 5-8, 2007.
Indiana completed its season with a 15-4-3 record.
