Dec. 28, 1988 - Earning a postseason berth for the third consecutive year, Indiana defeated South Carolina in the Liberty Bowl in Memphis, Tenn., 34-10. Although Indiana dominated throughout, the game-breaking play occurred on the first snap of the fourth quarter, when Indiana quarterback Dave Schnell hooked up with wide receiver Rob Turner on an 88-yard touchdown pass that gave the Hoosiers a 27-10 lead. With 575 yards of total offense, Indiana set a Liberty Bowl record. Schnell (378 yards., 2 TDs) was the game's Most Valuable Player.
Dec. 30-31, 2005 - Wrestler Brady Richardson secured a third-place finish at 197 lbs. in leading Indiana to an eighth-place finish at the Midlands Championship. Others placing for the Hoosiers include Brandon Becker, who finished in fourth place at 157 lbs., and Andrae Hernandez, who was fifth at 133 lbs.
Dec. 30, 1983 - Behind 21 points and nine rebounds from Marty Simmons, the Hoosiers upset No. 12 Boston College 72-66 in the Hoosier Classic. Steve Alford also contributed 19 points for Indiana, while Stew Robinson tallied 14 points. Indiana would upset four top-10 teams in the 1983-84 season.
Dec. 30, 1989 - The Hoosiers' women's basketball team won the South Florida Tournament with a 62-60 defeat over the host Bulls in the title game. Pam Owens led Indiana with 20 points, while Zandrea Jefferies pulled down 12 rebounds in the win.
Dec. 31, 1991 - In one of the most impressive performances by any team during the 1991 bowl season, Indiana dominated a highly regarded Baylor team in the Copper Bowl, 24-0. Running back Vaughn Dunbar (106 yards., 1 TD) won Most Valuable Player honors on offense and linebacker Mark Hagen (11 tackles, 2 TFL, 1 PB) was the game's Defensive MVP.
