BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - On a weekly basis, IUHOOSIERS.com will recognize top academic performances by Hoosier student-athletes with the IU Scholar-Athlete of the Week award. For the week ending Nov. 6, sophomore men's basketball player Adam Ahlfeld earned the honor as selected by IU Athletics' Academic Services.
"Adam is one of our hardest working players on and off the court," Indiana head coach Mike Davis said. "He is able to manage a heavy course load, as well as the rigors of playing a varsity sport, and he excels at both. Adam epitomizes the term student-athlete and is very deserving of this award."
Ahlfeld, a special education major, is a conscientious member of the community. He is active on the Student Athlete Advisory Committee and is involved in many community service activities. Additionally, Ahlfeld has been spending time in a local school this semester as part of his lab/field experience, and is able to balance this even with his responsibilities as a member of the men's basketball team.
"Adam is a tremendous student-athlete and young man," academic advisor Jen Brand said. "He takes advantage of all of the help that our academic center and the university have to offer. Adam uses tutors, he forms relationships with his professors, he asks for help and he works with other student-athletes whenever possible. Adam is going to be an exceptional teacher!"
