BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - On a weekly basis, IUHOOSIERS.com will recognize top academic performances by Hoosier student-athletes with the IU Scholar-Athlete of the Week award. For the week ending April 2, junior men's tennis player David Bubenicek earned the honor as selected by IU Athletics' Academic Services.
"David had a big week for us on the court," Indiana head coach Ken Hydinger said. "He beat the defending Big Ten Indoor Singles Champion in the decisive match against Wisconsin. He has played very consistent all season. David carries that type of excellence and hard work over to the classroom. He has a quality grade point average, and works hard at his studies. It is a well deserved honor for him."
An International Studies major in the College of Arts and Science with junior standing, Bubenicek is a native of the Czech Republic who has made the transition to American college tennis and Indiana University successfully. He earned Alpha Beta recognition and claimed the 2005 Scholastic Achievement award for men's tennis.
"David works very hard off the court to maintain these high standards," academic advisor Scott Maxwell said. "He is a shining example to everyone on his team."
