Get to Know Cassie Ringlespaugh

Indiana sophomore Cassie Ringlespaugh is a member of the Crimson cheerleading squad for the 2006-07 season. A native of Fishers, Ind., Ringlespaugh sat down with IUHOOSIERS.com for 10 questions so IU fans can get to know a little more about her.
Who has been the biggest influence in your life?
"My family has influenced my life in so many ways. When it was just my mom and I, my mom had the strength to take care of me all by herself and that's amazing. When my dad passed away when I was 10, my life was influenced for forever in so many ways. Yet, I was lucky enough to by adopted by a man that couldn't be a better father. I am truly blessed to lead the life I have led so far."
Teammate or coach I admire the most
"I have been blessed to have a long list of incredible coaches in my life, and that it makes it hard to choose. I admire my high school cheerleading coach, Coach Johnson of Hamilton Southeastern, because she was there for me in those critical high school years. She was truly an amazing person. She is the kind of coach that sees the very best and most potential in everyone. As a team, she believed in each and every one of us, as not just a cheerleader, but a person too. I felt motivated in not just my own personal gain, but the fact that I didn't want to let her great belief in me down. She had been through so much, and is such a strong person, that you can't help but admire that."
Favorite quote:
"Rule number 76, play like a champion, no excuses!" from Wedding Crashers "You have no reason not to be doing your best other than laziness."
Most memorable IU athletics moment:
"My freshman year when a now teammate of mine who I didn't know very well at the time and I were getting ready for prom out in a van during tryouts. We were waiting to see if we had made the team. We ran down to the list with our hair and make-up half done and found out we had BOTH made the IU Cheerleading Team! We just hugged each other. It was an amazing moment."
Other than cheerleading, what IU sport would you play?
"I would play rugby. People always assume cheerleaders are prissy and not tough, but with how much hard work we put into cheering, I believe we actually one of the toughest and most dedicated sports. Our routines look so easy when we step out on the field because we have worked hard to make it that way. I love football and if I was a guy would play football, but since I'm a girl, I would want to play rugby. It is definitely different the football, but just as fun!"
Favorite place on IU's campus:
"Assembly Hall! Nothing is cooler than walking into a packed Assembly Hall and cheering for your favorite basketball team!"
Place I would most like to travel:Â Fiji or New Zealand, so I can go black water rafting and cliff diving!!!
Favorite aspect of cheerleading "I love that we get front row tickets to every game! People pay thousands so sit behind us! I am so lucky to get to do something I love and get to sit so close to the games."
Most prized possession:Â "My dog, Daisy."
What makes Indiana special from any other program?
"The coaches and the athletic program here are sensational. They really do care about you within and outside of cheerleading. Many past teammates had such a great experience with the coaching staff that they keep in touch. They even come to watch practices or become coaches here themselves! The men and woman that cheer here so incredibly talented, you couldn't ask for better teammates. I honestly believe IU's cheer program is the most talented cheerleaders in the nation."Â
