BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - On a weekly basis, IUHOOSIERS.com will recognize top academic performances by Hoosier student-athletes with the IU Scholar-Athlete of the Week award. For the week ending Oct. 9, freshman volleyball player Laura Holm earned the honor as selected by IU Athletics' Academic Services.
"It is a great accomplishment," Indiana head volleyball coach Katie Weismiller said. "It is kind of fun, because it could be anyone on our team. We have a joke on the team, where Laura truly believes that to get a 4.0, you have to get nothing but A+ grades and no one is going to tell her anything different. I think it is great. She is truly striving to be one of the top student-athletes at IU."
Holm received direct admittance to the Kelley School of Business and is a member of the Honors College. Meanwhile, she has made an immediate impact on the volleyball team as the starting setter.
"Laura is a steady and consistent student-athlete," academic advisor Jen Brand said. "She has come into Indiana University and made her presence known, not only by making an immediate impact on the volleyball court, but also by displaying the same commitment to excellence in the classroom. Laura takes advantage of all of the resources that IU has to offer, including help sessions and tutors. Laura is a diligent and special young woman who has limitless potential."
