BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - On a weekly basis, IUHOOSIERS.com will recognize top academic performances by Hoosier student-athletes with the IU Scholar-Athlete of the Week award. For the week ending March 26, senior water polo player Janis Pardy earned the honor as selected by IU Athletics' Academic Services.
"Janis epitomizes the term student-athlete," Indiana head water polo coach Barry King said. "She has excelled and continues to excel both in the pool and in the classroom. She is exactly the type of student-athlete that the water polo program wants to bring into this university. She has been an example and a leader for our younger players, and you cannot ask for anything more. I know Janis will be successful in whatever she chooses to do in life because of the type of individual she is and the type of work ethic she displays."
Pardy will graduate with a degree in speech and hearing sciences with a minor in psychology and a business certificate this spring. She is in one of IU's most difficult majors, but has done incredibly well. Pardy has been an Alpha Beta honoree each semester, and also earned 2005 Scholastic Achievement recognition for water polo for the team member with the highest GPA.
"Janis is a great example of someone who has maximized her education," academic advisor Jenn Townsend said. "She not only decided to pursue one of IU's most difficult and interesting majors, speech and hearing sciences, but she also prioritized getting a well-rounded education by pursuing other areas that interested her. She is also getting a minor in psychology and a business foundations certificate. Janis' focus and dedication both to athletics and academics are unrivaled."
