Hoeppner Agrees to Contract Extension

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Indiana University Head Football Coach Terry Hoeppner has agreed to a two-year contract extension, the department of athletics announced on Wednesday, Dec. 6. The agreement runs through the 2011 season.
"Coach Hoeppner has captured the hearts of all loyal Indiana University fans since his arrival two years ago," Indiana University President Adam W. Herbert said. "His strength of character, professional knowledge and boundless enthusiasm for IU football are in keeping with the very high traditions that have long been the hallmark of our athletic teams. I am delighted that Coach Hoeppner has agreed to remain as head of our football program for five more years. Under his leadership, IU fans can look to the future with great confidence and anticipation."
"He's the right man for the job, and he has proven that in his first two seasons at Indiana University," Director of Athletics Rick Greenspan said. "He's a strong representative of this institution, and his enthusiasm has been contagious. Terry Hoeppner is the perfect man to head the IU Football program."
Hoeppner guided a Hoosier team with 72 underclassmen, including 49 freshmen, within one game of postseason eligibility in 2006. Indiana recorded the best win totals for the program since the 2001 season. He is 57-39 in eight years as a head coach.
"I really appreciate the confidence President Herbert, Athletic Director Greenspan and the Board of Trustees have in me," Hoeppner said. "The entire Indiana University family has treated me so well during my two years in Bloomington, and I cannot thank everyone enough for that. I love this university. This is where I want to be, and I look forward to many great years with the Hoosiers."
IU was named the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl National Team of the Week following its 31-28 victory over No. 13 Iowa on Oct. 14. The win marked the program's first triumph over a top-15 team since Oct. 10, 1987, against No. 9 Ohio State.
