Funk Named IU Scholar-Athlete of the Week

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - On a weekly basis, IUHOOSIERS.com will recognize top academic performances by Hoosier student-athletes with the IU Scholar-Athlete of the Week award. For the week ending Oct. 22, freshman field hockey player Haley Funk earned the honor as selected by IU Athletics' Academic Services.
"It's always impressive when a freshman can come in and adjust so well both athletically and academically," Indiana head field hockey coach Amy Robertson said. "That's often uncharacteristic of freshmen. Haley has been such a big contributor for our team this season, and I am so please she is excelling in the classroom as well."
Funk, a native of Lititz, Pa., is majoring in nutrition science at IU. The forward has seen action in 17 games this season and has scored five goals.
According to academic advisor Kelly Noonan, Funk has begun her career as a student-athlete off on the right track. "Haley Funk's college career is off to a great start," Noonan said. "She has not only had positive results on the field, but in the classroom as well. Haley is working towards a degree in nutrition science, and her commitment and work ethic are sure signs that she will continue to have success throughout her time here at IU. Haley is very deserving of this honor because she put a lot of time and effort into her midterm assignments."
