Massey Named Assistant Athletic Director for Academic Services

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Kimya Massey has been named Indiana University's Assistant Athletic Director for Academic Services, IU Athletic Director Rick Greenspan announced today. In this capacity, Massey will plan, coordinate and administer the academic services program, supervise the Hoosiers' academic advising staff and provide advising, counseling and consulting to Indiana student-athletes as they plan for and carry out their degree oriented academic program.
Massey arrives in Bloomington after spending the last four years at Michigan State University as the Director of Learning Enhancement and Academic Programs (LEAP), where he managed all aspects of the Tutorial and Mentor Programs and Learning Disability Services. Massey also served as one of the academic coordinators for the Spartan football program, and he was the liaison between the Student-Athlete Support Services office and the women's basketball program.
Greenspan believes that Massey's background will be valuable at IU.

"Indiana has a proud tradition of supporting its student-athletes in their pursuit of excellence in the classroom and in their development of life skills that serve them well throughout their careers. Kimya's experience in all aspects of the academic support operation and the role that he was able to play in the expansion and evolution of Michigan State's program will make him an important asset as we strive to continually improve upon our successes at Indiana. We are very happy to welcome Kimya to Bloomington and to the IU family."
Massey is prepared to play such an integral role in Hoosier athletics.
"I am truly grateful to have the opportunity to join a first class institution like Indiana University," Massey said. "I want to personally thank Rick Greenspan and Grace Calhoun for giving me the opportunity to contribute to the continued growth and development of a program on the rise. I also feel very grateful to remain in the Big Ten Conference, which remains the model conference in the country when it comes to balancing academics and athletics.
Massey also contributed to Michigan State's CHAMPS/Life Skills program from 2000-02, coordinating MSU student-athletes' visits to local elementary schools and other community organizations.
A 2000 Michigan State graduate with a bachelor's degree in sociology and anthropology, Massey earned his master's degree in kinesiology with an emphasis in athletic administration from MSU in 2004. He was a four-year letterwinner as a pitcher for the Spartan baseball program, a three-time Academic All-Big Ten selection and team captain as a senior.
Following graduation in 2000, Massey spent two years working in sales for Dell Computers and Cintas in Nashville, Tenn. He returned to East Lansing in 2002 to pursue his master's degree and career in college athletics.
