BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Indiana University Men's Soccer will once again join forces with adidas to host the 2006 Midwest Soccer Coaches Symposium on March 31 and April 1. The symposium is designed to offer soccer coaches throughout the Midwest two days of "professional development." The event will feature an outstanding group of clinicians, informative field sessions and a spring soccer match between the seven-time national champion Hoosiers and the Cincinnati Bearcats.
The clinicians of the event include the Indiana men's soccer coaching staff of head coach Mike Freitag and assistant coaches Todd Yeagley and Dave Giffard. The symposium will also have individuals such as former U-16/U-17 United States National Team Coach Roy Rees, University of Cincinnati head coach Hylton Dayes and nationally renowned performance consulted Rob Kehoe.
"We are happy to have Roy Rees as one of our guest clinicians," Freitag said. "I have the good fortune of serving as an assistant under him with the Under-17 National Team. He is one of the top soccer minds in the United States. Along with coach (Jerry) Yeagley, Roy has been one of the key mentors in my professional career. It is a real honor to have to come and share his knowledge at the symposium."
The symposium offers youth, high school and college coaches from across the country a chance to gather information and share experiences with their colleagues.
The event will include on field sessions that will address offensive and defensive principles and technical and tactical development as well as positional play. Another informative feature to the symposium will be a match analysis. Coaches will attend a game between IU and the University of Cincinnati. During the match, symposium clinicians will offer insightful analysis and discussion.
