Killingsworth, Vaden Earn NABC All-District Honors

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Senior forward Marco Killingsworth and sophomore guard/forward Robert Vaden were named to the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) All-District team, NABC officials announced on Feb. 18. Killingsworth, who also was recently named as one of 30 players across the country to earn a spot on the Wooden Award Midseason All-American Team, was tabbed to the first team, while Vaden earned second team honors.
"This is a terrific honor for Marco and Robert," Indiana head coach Mike Davis said. "Both of these players have had a great season and it is good to see that their efforts are being noticed by basketball coaches around the country."
Killingsworth leads the Hoosiers this season with 18.0 points, 8.1 rebounds and a .559 field goal percentage heading into IU's game at Illinois on Feb. 19. The Montgomery, Ala., native has earned three Big Ten Player of the Week honors (Nov. 21, Dec. 5 and Jan. 23) this season to become just the fifth Hoosier in school history to accomplish the feat dating back to the start of the Big Ten Player of the Week honor during the 1981-82 season. Along with that distinction, Killingsworth becomes only the 17th Big Ten player to ever win three player of the week honors in a single season. Former Purdue star Glenn Robinson holds the record with five in 1993-94, while former IU standout Kirk Haston is second with four during the 2000-01 season.
Vaden has had an impressive second season for the Hoosiers. The first team All-Big Ten candidate leads Indiana with 3.9 assists and 1.4 steals per contest, while ranking second on the squad with 14.1 points and 5.5 rebounds a game. Earlier in the campaign, he hit for a school-record 12 consecutive treys from Dec. 23 through Jan. 3, a span of three games, which was only three off the NCAA Division I record of 15 straight. The Indianapolis, Ind., native also set another school-best mark when he hit 6-of-6 three pointers against Butler on Dec. 23, eclipsing the former record of 5-of-5, set by Kyle Hornsby (vs. Michigan on Feb. 17, 2002) and Keith Smart (vs. Ohio State on March 5, 1987). Vaden also earned his first career Big Ten Player of the Week honor for the week of Jan. 2.
The NABC Division I All-District Teams recognize the country's best men's collegiate basketball student-athletes. Selected and voted on by member coaches of the NABC, these student-athletes represent the finest basketball players across the country. The 150 student-athletes, from 15 districts, are now eligible for the NABC Division I All-American Teams to be announced at the conclusion of the 2005-06 NCAA men's basketball season.
