Feb. 22, 2006
Indiana vs. Penn State
Opening Statement:
MD:"We really worked hard this week on rebounding the basketball and our defense. I think in the first part of the first half they did a great job of making shots. I think they made three or four threes in a row. We made some shots and they made some shots. There was one stretch, defensively, that I thought we played well. The second half, I thought Marshall Strickland did a great job. A.J. Ratliff and Roderick Wilmont did a great job rebounding the basketball. They had seven each. It's been a long time since those guys have rebounded the basketball. They did a great job for us tonight."
On Strickland scoring 1,000 points:
MD:"Marshall was my first signee. He is a great student-athlete. He should be a poster player because of his academics and his approach to the game. I'm proud of him for going over the 1,000 point mark. We needed every point tonight. He has meant a lot to me, and I'm happy he came and happy he stayed."
On playing without Robert Vaden for majority of the second half:
MD:"We've got to get Robert Vaden and Marco (Killingsworth) going. It's been awhile since both of those guys have played well. It's time for those guys to play, and I'm not sure what the problem is. We won this game tonight with him going one for seven from the field, but he had six assists which is good. We have to get Marco and Vaden scoring some points. If we get Marco, Vaden and Strickland scoring points for us then we're going to have a chance."
On post season play:
MD:"We are just going to take it one game at a time. If we can go 500 in this league that's pretty good. We are going to try to make sure we take care of our home court on Sunday. That is the most important game for us. I still believe in our kids. They are really changing their attitudes, their personality and their approach. Tonight, you probably noticed that we had some of those moments where we coasted and were just going through the motions, but there was more moments of us playing with energy."
