BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Indiana head coach Amy Robertson and the Hoosier field hockey team announced its spring schedule on Feb. 23. After rounding out a memorable 2005 season that included a trip to the Elite Eight of the NCAA Tournament, IU will take the field in three tournaments to fine tune its skills for the much-anticipated upcoming campaign.
"We need to sharpen up our receiving and passing skills, and the indoor style will be a good environment for us to improve on these fundamentals," Robertson said. "Spring competition is also great in that it allows for players who were not in the starting lineup during the regular season an opportunity to gain experience and confidence. Each year when your seniors graduate, there are always new players who emerge as your core group and as your leaders making it exciting for coaches to watch happen."
Spring action kicks off on Saturday, Feb. 25th in Muncie, Ind. The Hoosiers will travel to Ball State to compete in the Ball State Indoor Tournament.
A month later, Indiana returns to Mellencamp Pavilion to host an indoor tournament of their own. On Saturday, March 25, IU will host seven-on-seven play, while on Sunday the tournament will feature 11-on-11 round robin action.
The Hoosiers wrap up spring play at the site of the 2005 field hockey Final Four, Louisville's Trager Stadium the weekend of April 8-9. Like the tournament in Bloomington, the Hoosiers will partake in seven-verse-seven play on Saturday, April 8 and 11-on-11 round robin play on Sunday, April 9.
