TAMPA, Fla. - The Indiana softball team fell to the Univeristy of South Florida, 2-0, on Feb. 26 at the USF Softball Field in Tampa, Fla. The Hoosiers held USF to only six hits in the game and received six strikeouts from senior pitcher Mariangee Bogado, but the performance fell short against the Bulls who are a perennial regional qualifying team since 2003.
With the loss, Indiana fell to 2-3-1 on the season, while USF improved to 9-6 on the year.
USF posted the game's first runs in the top of the second and took a quick 2-0 lead.
Indiana rebounded to threaten in the bottom of the third. Two Hoosiers reached base off a single from sophomore Jennilee Huddleston and an error that allowed freshman shortstop Stephanie Pellerito to reach first. Indiana, however, fell short and left empty handed in the inning.
The University of South Florida continued to use a suffocating infield to hold the Hoosiers scoreless. IU stared at a 2-0 lead heading into the bottom of the seventh.
Despite a Hoosier push, the Hoosiers were unable to score a winning or tying run in the final frame to fall 2-0 to USF.
The Hoosiers move into the consolation game against No. 1-seeded Kent State on Feb. 26 at 10 a.m. (EST) at the USF Softball Field. No. 3-seeded USF will take on fourth-seeded Siena in the championship game at 12:30 p.m. to wrap up the Louisville Slugger Tournament.
