RIO GRANDE, Puerto Rico - The Indiana women's golf team carded a 326 during the final round of the 2006 Lady Puerto Rico Classic, and finished in 15th overall with a team score of 969 (322-321-326) during the three-day event. It was the first tournament of the 2006 spring campaign for the Hoosiers.
"I thought we played well this weekend considering we had to fight through the rust of the offseason and it being our first tournament this spring," Indiana head coach Clint Wallman said. "I feel some of the problems we encountered are something we can work through and learn from, which will only benefit us down the road."
The Hoosiers were led by senior Shannon Johnson, who tied for 31st overall with a 13-over par 228 (73-78-77) on the par 72, 6,083-yard CoCo Beach Ocean Course. Johnson has now carded 17 consecutive rounds of below 80.
Sophomore Elaine Harris finished in a tie for 60th overall with a 240 (80-79-81). Freshman Tara Boone, coming off a career-low round of 79 was a career-low mark, finished in a tie for 75th overall with a 246 (84-79-83) in her first-ever collegiate tournament. Freshman Amber Lindgren (85-85-85/255) and senior Katie Carlson (88-86-85/260) rounded out the Hoosiers.
The Hoosiers will return to action next weekend when they travel to Rio Verde, Ariz., to compete at the Rio Verde Invitational on March 2-3 at the Rio Verde Country Club.
