Reida, Sager Join IU Baseball Team

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Infielders Tad Reida and Brett Sager have joined the Indiana baseball team and will play for head coach Tracy Smith this season. Reida, a standout at Wichita State the past two years, and Sager, a redshirt at LSU in 2005, enrolled at IU after the fall semester.
Reida played in 52 games with 35 starts in 2005 and batted .279 with 19 runs, 38 hits, five doubles, one triple, one home run, 23 RBI and two stolen bases. The Kokomo, Ind., native had 11 multi-hit games and eight multi-RBI games to go along with three, three-game hitting streaks.
He earned a spot on the AD's Honor Roll in the fall of 2003 and '04 in addition to the spring of 2004 and '05. Reida was granted a medical hardship after suffering an arm injury in 2004.
A four-year letterwinner at Western High School in Kokomo, Reida collected all-county honors three times, all-conference honors four times, pre-season all-state honors three times, all-state honors once, Most Valuable Player honors three times and was named a North-South All-Star. The son of Chad and Shelly Reida has one sister, Tiffany and one brother, Matt. Tad is a sport marketing and management major.
"Tad is a `baseball rat', and I mean it in a good way," Smith said. "He is constantly working to improve his game and will put in whatever time necessary to be the best player he can be. Tad is going to be one of our main guys in the infield right away and will significantly enhance our production in the middle of the lineup."
Sager sat out the 2005 season as a redshirt. Prior to his stint with the Tigers, Sager was a four-year letterwinner at Nova High School in Davie, Fla. He garnered all-county and all-state selections as a senior after batting .380 with three home runs and 26 RBI.
A standout in the classroom as well as on the field, Sager earned Who's Who Among High School Student honors and was a member of the National Honor Society at Nova. The son of Ken and Sherri Sager has one sister, Alicia, and he plans to study business.
"Brett adds a quality glove for us in the infield," Smith said. "He had a stellar prep career in the state of Florida prior to his stint at LSU and should help us out right away. Brett is scrappy and loves to play the game. We are anxious to see how he handles the bat in game situations. He should be a very tough out."
