BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The No. 24/21 (AP/Coaches) Indiana men's basketball team held open practice on Feb. 7 in preparation for its upcoming road game at Wisconsin. The Hoosiers will travel to Madison, Wis., to face the Badgers on Wednesday, Feb. 8, at 7 p.m. The game will be televised nationally on ESPN and can also be heard on the IU Radio Network. The following are quotes from practice.
Senior Guard Marshall Strickland
On Wisconsin:
MS: "The one thing with Wisconsin is that they always play hard, especially at their place. It is going to be a tough game to win. They are so consistent. It is hard to get them out of their rhythm. And that is what we are going to try to do tomorrow. We are going to try to speed them up and pressure them."
On the work the team has done in practice:
MS: "We are focusing on getting up and down the court and pressing the other team more."
On the team gaining confidence against Connecticut and carrying it over:
MS: "I think it was good. It was a good challenge for us against a great team like Connecticut. Our last few practices have been real good and I think it will carry over to tomorrow night."
Junior Guard Earl Calloway
On his performance against Connecticut giving him confidence:
EC: "I want to go out there and contribute to the team. I need to push the tempo and play with the intensity."
On the work the team has done in practice:
EC: "We are working on everything. We are working offense, defense, sprinting to spots, defensive spots, defensive strategy, offensive strategy and trying to execute. "
On playing against Wisconsin:
EC: "We just need to play hard. Wisconsin plays hard, and we need to play just as hard. We need to match their intensity and go above their intensity."
Head Coach Mike Davis
On Wisconsin:
MD: "It is going to be a tough game for us. They have had some bad luck. They lost on the road at Purdue and got beat at home by Illinois. Illinois is a good team. They have (Alando) Tucker, (Kammron) Taylor and (Brian) Butch. Those three guys are really good basketball players. "
On needing to improve on the road:
MD: "Our defense definitely has to be a lot better, but we have to score better than we have on the road. I thought at Michigan State, we did a good job of scoring, but we have to make the extra pass and move the ball around more than we have been."
On the impact of Wisconsin's recent struggles:
MD: "I think it just makes them even hungrier to get a win. This game on Wednesday is very important to them because they have four losses, and they don't want to go to five. We have three losses, and we don't want to go to four. I think 11-5 or 12-4 will win the conference."
