BLOOMINGTON, Ind - The Indiana women's golf team will travel to Henderson, Nev., where it will compete at the three-day, 72-hole UNLV Spring Invitational on March 13-15. This marks the second consecutive year the Hoosiers will compete at the event. Last year, IU finished 14th overall in the 18-team field behind a three-day tally of 982. Sophomore Elaine Harris led the squad with a 240 to place in a tie for 41st overall.
Joining the Hoosiers at the UNLV Spring Invitational will be UNLV, Texas Tech, Illinois State, Nevada-Reno, Long Beach State, BYU, Fresno State, New Mexico, Idaho, Colorado State, Eastern Washington, Illinois, Colorado, San Diego State, Campbell, Memphis and San Jose State
Record Pace
Senior Shannon Johnson is looking to leave her mark on the IU record books. The Sioux Falls, S.D., native is averaging a 74.95 per 18 holes during the 2005-06 campaign. Should that pace continue, Johnson will be one of just four women's golfers in school history to average below 75.00 during a season. Additionally, her name already is found in the school record books. Her 36-round score of 143 at the Shootout at the Legends on Oct. 10-11, 2005 was tied for the ninth-best 36-hole mark in school history. Below is a break down of the top-10 single-season averages in school history and where Johnson would rank if the trend continues:

Putting Experts
Indiana women's golf head coach Clint Wallman captured the Chrysler Putting Championship (1990) and the Pacific Northwest Regional Putting Championship (1997) during his professional career. Now his putting expertise is starting to show with the IU women's golfers. As a team, Indiana averages 32.00 putts per round. Leading the way is senior Molly Redfearn. The Racine, Wis., native is averaging 30.18 putts per round, which tops the squad. Additionally, sophomore Elaine Harris is averaging 30.75 putts, while senior Shannon Johnson boasts an average of 31.00 putts per 18 holes.
Looking For A Birdie
As the spring season continues, senior Shannon Johnson leads the team, accumulating 39 birdies during the 2005-06 campaign. That number not only leads the team, but ranks 46th in the country as well. As a team, the Hoosiers have connected on 118 birdies this year. That number ranks 65th-best in the country.
On A Streak
After two events played during the spring season, senior Shannon Johnson and sophomore Elaine Harris are both riding impressive streaks from the fall season of sub-80 rounds. Johnson has not had a round of 80 or higher, meaning she has recorded 20 consecutive rounds of under 80. Harris has been just as hot for the Hoosiers. After shooting above 80 through the first four rounds of the 2005 fall season, the San Francisco, Calif., native has carded a sub-80 round in 12 of her last 14 rounds. On the season, Johnson's 74.95 stroke average leads the team, while Harris' 78.05 per round is second-best.
