
Fagan Places Fifth on Platform at Zones

COLUMBUS, Ohio - Senior Ryan Fagan closed out the day in fifth place at the Zone C Diving Championships in Columbus, Ohio, on March 12. The Pittsburgh, Pa., product posted a 606.95 performance during platform competition. He opened up the final session in a big way with 72.00 points off a forward 3.5 somersault from a pike position.
Meanwhile, senior Jesse Rappaport concluded his career at IU just short of NCAAs. He finished sixth with 596.75 points. His best dive of the day came in the last round of prelims when he snared 59.50 points with a backward 2.5 somersault with 1.5 twists from a pike position.
Additionally, sophomore Justin Montrie placed 10th with 536.35 points to finish his season for the Hoosiers. He netted 56.70 points for his highest tally of the day with a reverse 2.5 somersault from a tuck position.
In other Hoosier action, sophomore David Legler capped his season with a 12th-place tally of 525.95, while classmate Taylor Roberts posted a 13th-place total of 508.60. Roberts, however, will continue on to NCAAs after qualifying in the first day of competition.
Overall, the Hoosiers will send nine student-athletes to NCAAs. Senior Thomas Clavier, Fagan, senior Sergiy Fesenko, sophomore Ben Hesen, freshman Steven Murry, sophomore Todd Patrick, Roberts, senior Kevin Swander and freshman Nick Walkotten will represent IU at the 2006 NCAA Championships in Atlanta, Ga., from March 23-25.
