BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Day two of spring football practice took place indoors at Mellencamp Pavillion on Thursday, March 23.
The Hoosiers spent a majority pf practice in position specific drills, as the team worked its way into playing shape. Following the position drills, the team went to seven-on-seven drills.
During the seven-on-seven, the defensive secondary and wide receivers went against each other, then the linebackers and defensive linemen matched up against the offensive line and running backs.
The Hoosier secondary played tight defense, with sophomore Tracy Porter coming up with an acrobatic interception. Shortly after the interception, the offense moved the ball with sophomore James Bailey and senior Jahkeen Gilmore coming up with impressive catches.
Following practice, IUHOOSIERS.com caught up with several Hoosiers to discuss practice.
Defensive Lineman Greg Brown
On practice so far this spring:
GB: Right now we aren't in pads, we are just going through the basics, going through the plays. It has been a year since we have gone through the plays. We are just trying to get the feel back that we had last year when we were playing every day. We are just easing into it right now and adapting.
On the team attitude coming into this season:
GB: We are going to continue to come out and play hard every day. There are going to be some changes made from year to year, but we aren't going to change the way we come out and play hard to get ready.
Wide Receiver Jahkeen Gilmore
Changes from last season to this season:
JG: We haven't really changed much. We added a couple of plays. We haven't changed too many of the plays, things are just more intense. We are focusing on the small things and making them better.
On getting back out and practicing:
JG: It definitely feels good to get back out here. After you go through all the training throughout the winter, not able to play football but watch it on television, we feel like kids with candy in our hands. We are having fun again. We are intense, but having fun at the same time.
