Hoosiers Open Spring Against Lindsey Wilson

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Indiana men's soccer team will open up the spring portion of its schedule with a match against defending NAIA National Champion Lindsey Wilson. The Hoosiers will host the Blue Raiders at 1 p.m. in Memorial Stadium on Sunday, March 26. The contest will be the first of six spring matches for the Hoosiers.
This is the second straight spring that IU has played Lindsey Wilson. Indiana and Lindsey Wilson met during the 2005 spring as well with the Hoosiers claiming a 2-0 victory. Josh Tudela and Kevin Noschang scored the goals in the 2-0 win at Memorial Stadium.
IU was originally slated to play a doubleheader on Sunday, but the match against IUPUI has been postponed at this time. The game may be made up later during the spring season.
Indiana faces the Mexican Youth National team for the second straight season. The international friendly is set for Tuesday, April 18, at 7:30 p.m., on Yeagley Field at Armstrong Stadium. During the spring of 2005, Mexico downed the Hoosiers, 2-1, in an exciting and fast-paced soccer affair. The 2005 game was part of Mexico's preparation for the 2006 FIFA World Youth Championships. They went on to capture the world championship at the event with a 3-0 victory over Brazil.
Indiana returns five starters and 18 letterwinners from the 2005 team that went 13-3-6 overall. The Hoosiers were the third seed in the NCAA Tournament before falling in the second round. Tudela is the Hoosiers' top returning scorer at 17 points with six goals and five assists.
IU also returns a solid nucleus on the defensive end led by starting goalkeeper Chris Munroe. Munroe posted a 0.71 goals against average with 57 saves and 10 shutouts in 2005. Sophomore Greg Stevning started 20 games on the back line, with junior Julian Dieterle starting 22 games and sophomore Charley Traylor starting eight. The Hoosiers also added a pair of U.S. Youth International players in freshmen Ofori Sarkodie and Kevin Alston. The pair started for the U.S. Under-17 National team at the 2005 FIFA World Youth Championship and enrolled at IU last January.
