Indiana football fans can ask head coach Terry Hoeppner his thoughts on the Hoosiers' progress this spring or the outlook for the 2006 season by e-mailing Coach Hep at athlweb@indiana.edu. Your questions and Coach Hep's answers will be posted weekly through April 15, the date of the annual Cream-Crimson spring intrasquad game. Here is the first installment of responses.

First of all I would like to thank you for bringing back excitement to Indiana's football program. Around this time last year, you stated that the quarterback position was written down in pencil. Does that hold true this season or is the position Blake's until he loses it? Thank you and I look forward to following the Hoosiers during spring practice and the upcoming season.

Thanks for the question. Blake is currently running with the 1's, but I meant what I said. The best players, (those that produce the best results in the context of our offense and defense) are the ones who are going to play.

I just wanted to say that I am really looking forward to this upcoming football season. My question is, do you think the young lineman can step up during the tough Big Ten season this year?

The OL is the key position on any football team. We targeted the offensive line in recruiting because we will need them to at least give us depth this season. The challenge for us is to get them ready to play by the Big Ten part of the schedule. Thanks for your question.

I can't tell you how excited my family is that you're the leader of this team. Have you set a time for the Spring game on April 15. Just trying to get my schedule set so my family can make it. Again, thanks for taking the IU job and we are right behind you every step. Looking for a great 2006 season!

The spring game will start at 4:00. We are off to a good start after four practices, but we still have a long way to go. See you on April 15 at the Rock.

Can we expect to see more of Lance Bennett this year in the offense?
Sammy,
Lance will hopefully be full speed this year which will allow him to play some wide receiver as well as return punts and kick-offs. He is healthy for the first time in years, so keep your fingers crossed.
