CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - Indiana split its two games in the second day of the Frost Cutlery Classic in Chattanooga, Tenn., on March 4. The 4-6-1 Hoosiers suffered a 1-0, eight-inning loss to host Chattanooga before bouncing back with a 3-2 win over North Florida in the second game.
Despite multiple offensive opportunities, the Hoosiers were unable to hold off the Mocs in the opening game of the day. In the top of the second inning, right fielder Lauren Hines singled, and Abby Page was inserted as a pinch runner. Page stole second, and designated hitter Anna Olson walked. Catcher Jannetta Deaven then smacked a single to right field, and Page rounded third, before being thrown out at home. Shortstop Stephanie Pellerito then grounded out to pitcher Ashley Frizzell to end the inning.
In the sixth inning, IU's Sarah Padove led off with a walk, and Rachel Carlson went in as a pinch runner. Mariangee Bogado sacrificed Carlson to second, but Hines popped out to shortstop for the second out of the inning. First baseman Rachel Terry walked, but Olson struck out to end the inning.
One inning later, left fielder Julia Hamilton reached base on a two-out error, and shortstop Jennilee Huddleston walked. However, Padove grounded to third for the force out on Hamilton.
An eighth-inning RBI triple by Chattanooga shortstop Tara Trembley to drive home the international tie-breaking runner spoiled a solid outing by Bogado, who allowed just two hits while striking out 11.
In the second game, Indiana scored three runs in the first two innings en route to its fourth victory of the spring. Huddleston and Hines hit back-to-back, two-out solo home runs in the bottom of the first to give the Hoosiers a 2-0 lead. Rachel Terry added a solo homer in the second inning to account for all three Hoosier runs.
Senior Megan Roark upped her pitching mark to 2-3 by throwing a complete game four-hitter, while striking out 11.
Indiana concludes the Frost Cutlery Classic by facing Bradley at 10 a.m., and Middle Tennessee State at 2:30 p.m. on March 5.
