Four Hoosiers to Compete at NCAA Track and Field Championships

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Four Hoosiers are slated to compete at the 2006 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships in Fayetteville, Ark., March 10-11 at Arkansas' Randall Tyson Indoor Track. Stephen Haas (5,000m), Ryan Ketchum (shot put), Kiwan Lawson (long jump) and David Neville (200m, 400m) will compete in the 42nd annual indoor championships.
Here's a look at the Hoosiers that will be representing Indiana at the 2006 Indoor NCAA Track and Field Championships:
Stephen Haas - 5,000m
Two-time All-American Haas earned his second consecutive bid to the NCAAs after turning in a 13:44.09 performance at Feb. 10th's Tyson Invitational in Fayetteville in the 5,000m. Haas is seeded third in the event and will run at approximately 7:50 p.m., on Friday. Last season, Haas broke the school record in the event with a personal-best mark of 13:41.42. Additionally, Haas is the school record holder in the 3,000m with a time of 7:51.00.
Ryan Ketchum - Shot Put
Ketchum will make his first appearance at the NCAA Championships after shattering his previous personal-best with a throw of 18.92m (62-01.00) at the Alex Wilson Invitational on March 5 in South Bend, Ind. Ketchum's first-place heave at the meet marked the second time this season the Hutchinson, Kan., product cleared an NCAA provisional qualifying mark in the event. Ketchum is seeded at the No. 12 slot and will compete on Friday at 2:30 p.m. This season, Ketchum also competed in the weight throw.
Kiwan Lawson - Long Jump
Lawson earned his first trip to the NCAAs after leaping to a provisional qualifying and personal-best mark of 7.75m (25-5.24) at Feb. 10th's Tyson Invitational. Lawson is seeded seventh in the event and will compete at 6 p.m., on Friday.
David Neville - 200m and 400m
Neville, who claimed the Big Ten crown in both the 200m and the 400m, earned a bid to the NCAAs in both events. This is Neville's third trip in as many years to Fayetteville. In the 200m, Neville is seeded seventh and will run the 200m at approximately 7:20 p.m., on Friday. The Merrillville, Ind., product ran a season-best 20.96 in Iowa City, Iowa at the conference meet.
Neville, who is seeded fourth in the 400m, earned a bid to the championship in the event after clocking a personal-best time of 46.67 on Jan. 7 at the first meet of the season, the Hoosier Open, en route to earning Big Ten Athlete of the Week recognition. Neville is set to run the 400m on Friday at 5:40 p.m.
