Hoosiers Release 2006 Spring Schedule

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Indiana men's soccer team will play seven games as part of its 2006 spring schedule, highlighted by an International friendly with the Mexican Youth National Team on April 18. The slate includes five games at Yeagley Field at Armstrong Stadium with two other contests in the Indianapolis area.
For the second straight season, the Hoosiers will play host to the Mexican Youth National team. The 2006 spring contest is set for Tuesday, April 18, at 7:30 p.m., on Yeagley Field at Armstrong Stadium. During the spring of 2005, Mexico downed the Hoosiers, 2-1, in an exciting and fast-paced soccer affair. The 2005 game was part of Mexico's preparation for the 2006 FIFA World Youth Championships. They went on to capture the world championship at the event with a 3-0 victory over Brazil.
The first chance to catch the Hoosiers during the 2006 spring campaign will be an intersquad affair. The match is slated for 7 p.m., on Wednesday, March 8 at the Bloomington SportsPlex.
The Hoosiers will start the spring docket with a doubleheader on Sunday, March 26. IU will take on defending NAIA National Champion Lindsey Wilson at 1 p.m., before battling IUPUI at 3 p.m. Last spring, the Hoosiers defeated the Blue Raiders, 2-0, on goals from Josh Tudela and Kevin Noschang. IU is also familiar with IUPUI, as the Hoosiers defeated the in-state foe 5-0 during the 2005 regular season. The Jaguars were 5-11-1 last season.

The Bearcats were 10-7-2 overall and 6-3-2 in their first season in the Big East Conference. The match will be played at 7:30 p.m., at Yeagley Field at Armstrong Stadium. In an interesting side note to the affair, IU freshman Ofori Sarkodie will see a familiar face across the way against the Bearcats. His brother, Kwame, is a senior starter in the midfield for Cincinnati.
In its first midweek affair of the spring slate, the Hoosiers will battle the Cincinnati Kings at 7 p.m., on Wednesday, April 5. The Kings finished their inaugural season in the United Soccer League Second Division with a 7-8-5 record. They were only one spot out of the playoff chase in the Second Division.
The Hoosiers and Fighting Irish of Notre Dame will meet at Kuntz Stadium in Indianapolis on Saturday, April 8, at 7:30 p.m. Indiana and Notre Dame played on a pair of occasions last season. The Hoosiers downed the Irish, 3-0, in South Bend, Ind., during the regular season, but the Irish struck back with a 2-0 win in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. Notre Dame finished the 2005 season with a 12-8-3 record.
After the game against Mexico, Indiana will cap the spring with a game against Butler at North Central High School in Indianapolis. The game is scheduled for 7:30 p.m., on Tuesday, April 25. It will be a homecoming for juniors Chris Munroe, Charley Traylor and Greg Stevning. The trio helped North Central to the 2002 boys' soccer state championship before heading to IU.
Former Charlotte associate head coach Kelly Findley took over the reigns of the Butler soccer program during the offseason. The Bulldogs were 9-10 last season, including a 6-0 defeat at the hands of the Hoosiers in Bloomington.
