Killingsworth, Vaden Earn All-Big Ten Honors

PARK RIDGE, Ill. - Indiana senior forward Marco Killingsworth and sophomore guard/forward Robert Vaden garnered All-Big Ten honors, as announced by the conference on March 7. Killingsworth earned second team all-conference accolades from the Big Ten media and a third team choice by the league's coaches. Vaden received honorable mention honors by both the Big Ten coaches and media. Additionally, senior guard Marshall Strickland received the Sportsmanship Award for the Hoosiers.
Killingsworth continues to reel in the awards during the 2005-06 campaign. He was named to the Wooden Award Midseason All-America team as one of the top 30 finalists for the annual honor. The Montgomery, Ala., native also garnered National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) first team All-District laurels. During the Big Ten regular season, Killingsworth became the 17th player in Big Ten history and fifth in school history to be named Big Ten Player of the Week on three occasions in a single season as he earned the honor on Nov. 21, Dec. 5 and Jan. 23.
The 6-8, 268-pounder ranked among the Big Ten leaders in scoring (seventh), rebounding (fifth) and field goal percentage (seventh). He led the Hoosiers at 17.4 points and 7.8 rebounds per game, while shooting .552 from the floor. Killingsworth's seven double-doubles are the most by a Hoosier since Jeff Newton had 11 during the 2002-03 season.
Vaden ranks among the Big Ten top 15 in six different statistical categories. He is 15th in scoring (13.6), 14th in rebounding (5.7), ninth in assists (3.7), 10th in steals (1.3), eighth in three-point field-goal percentage (.422) and 11th in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.05). The Indianapolis, Ind., native garnered his first Big Ten Player of the Week honor after knocking down a school record 6-of-6 from behind the arc against Ball State on Dec. 31. Vaden also garnered NABC second team All-District honors.
Furthermore, Vaden notched two other school records. He hit eight three-point field goals at Iowa on Jan. 24 to tie the school mark. From Dec. 23-Jan. 3, he connected on 12 straight three-pointers, which fell just three short of the national and conference record.
In his final season with the Hoosiers, Strickland became the 40th Hoosier to notch 1,000 points during his career following a 22-point effort against Penn State on Feb. 22. The Mt. Airy, Md., native is 19th in the league in scoring (12.4), while ranking second in free throw percentage (.913) and three-point field-goal percentage (.483).
The Hoosiers finished the Big Ten regular season tied for fourth with Wisconsin at 9-7. The two teams will battle in the 4-5 game at 2:30 p.m., on Friday, March 10, in the quarterfinals of the Big Ten Tournament. The event will be held at Conseco Fieldhouse in Indianapolis. The game will be broadcast on ESPN and can be heard on the IU Radio Network with Don Fischer (play-by-play), former IU guard Todd Leary (color) and Joe Smith (pregame, halftime, postgame) on the call.
