First And Ten With Jake Powers

Jake Powers participated in all 11 games for IU in 2005. Powers accounted for six tackles and five solos during his best contest of the campaign at Michigan on Nov. 12. He also registered a trio of takedowns against Minnesota on Nov. 5. Overall, Powers tallied 17 tackles with 11 of the solo variety in 2005.
Powers recently sat down with IUHOOSIERS.COM to talk about life both inside and outside IU football.
What were your first impressions upon meeting Coach Hoeppner?
My first impressions upon meeting Coach Hoeppner were filled with
energy and promise. He has a presence about himself and the way he
speaks that makes you want to go out and do anything for him and your
teammates to fight for "that inch."
Best part of being a college student-athlete
The best part of being a college athlete is the opportunity that you
have to make a difference within collegiate athletics as well as in the
academic environment.
Who is the toughest player you have ever faced?
The toughest players that I have ever faced would have to be some of
our walk-ons. Those guys earn respect during the week, where most
college football players earn it on Fridays and Saturdays. A walk on
is a tough player.
Who would you play in a movie?
Those that know me, know that I'm "that guy" that memorizes lines from every funny movie. The person I would play in a movie would have to be Will Ferrell. I wouldn't just play Will Ferrell, but quite possibly the best character ever, Ron Burgundy.
What team do you most look forward to playing against in 2006?
This next year being my senior season, I look forward to every team on
our schedule. It is going to be an exciting year!
Name one thing that people would be most surprised to learn about you?
One thing that most people would be most surprised to learn about me is
that one of my true passions is hunting, especially with my Dad and
friends.
Favorite Television Show
Not much time to watch TV with all of the STUDYING... But I do like
Family Guy.
Favorite Movie
There are way to many to choose from but Boondock Saints, Anchorman,
Wedding Crashers, Friday Night Lights, and Platoon are just a few.
Best thing about Indiana Football
The best thing about Indiana Football is the oppurtunity to represent
so much. I am from Danville, Indiana, so it is something special to
represent your hometown as well as your home state. This school and
its new found love for Indiana Football is something that is exciting
and gets me excited just to think about.
What is the one message you have to potential IU football recruits:
Trust in these coaches and this team.
