GAINESVILLE, Fla.--Highlighted by Wil Fleming and Ryan Ketchum's first-place finishes in the men's hammer throw and shot put, respectively, at the Diet Pepsi Invite in Gainesville, Fla., on April 1, the Indiana track and field teams officially kicked off the 2006 outdoor campaign. Fleming heaved a 63.84m to win hammer, while Ketchum threw a 18.34m mark in the shot. Both met the regional qualifying standard.

Also capturing a first-place crown was the 4x400m relay team of Ryan Smith, Doug Dayhoff, John Gunnell and Trey Warfield, who met the regional standard with a time of 3:09.14.

Two other Hoosiers also met the standard, as Kyle Jenkins took a second-place finish in the triple jump with a leap of 15.25m, Ryan Ketchum was fifth in the discus with a mark of 52.65m

Lindsey Heisler was the highest finisher for the Hoosiers, as she tossed a 34.89m mark in the javelin to take a sixth-place finish.

Indiana returns to action next weekend, when it hosts its first outdoor meet of the 2006 season, the Indiana Relays on April 7-8 at the Robert C. Haugh Track and Field Complex.
