BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The trio of former Indiana Hoosiers in NFL Europe (NFLE) posted solid outings during this past weekend of action. Overall, the Hoosiers went 2-1 on the weekend, as Aaron Halterman (Rhein Fire) and Justin Smith (Hamburg Sea Devils) went head-to-head with Halterman's Fire coming out on top 31-21. Meanwhile, reigning NFLE Offensive Player of the Week Gibran Hamdan led the Amsterdam Admirals to a 38-31 conquest of the Berlin Thunder.
Hamdan's performance over the weekend proved to be timely as each moment the Thunder looked to build momentum, Hamdan led a scoring drive to keep the Admirals ahead in the game. He opened up the contest by connecting with Chad Lucas for a 10-yard touchdown strike to take a 7-0 lead. Hamdan then scampered into the end zone from 15 yards out in the third quarter to push the Admirals to a 28-21 advantage. He followed that with a 50-yard bomb to Lucas for another score to extend the gap to 35-21. Overall, Hamdan went 13-of-22 for 216 yards, two touchdowns and a 122.5 passer rating.
Halterman provided a solid target for quarterback Drew Henson as the former IU standout corralled four passes for 58 yards on the day, with 49 of them coming in the first half.
This coming weekend, Halterman's Fire will take on Hamdan's Admirals, while Smith's Sea Devils will battle the Frankfurt Galaxy. Both contests will take place on April 15. The Hamburg/Hamburg contest will air live on the NFL Network at noon EDT, while the Amsterdam/Rhein game will air on tape delay at 4 p.m., EDT on the NFL Network.
