BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Indiana volleyball team continues its spring season with competitions scheduled through the month of April. The Hoosiers are checking in with IUHOOSIERS.com from time to time to keep their fans abreast of how the spring season is going. Freshman Carrie Deal reports in today.
Today's practice began with some ball control skills. All spring, our coaches have reiterated the importance of everyone on the team having good ball control. When one thinks of ball control, the passers are usually the ones that people mostly think about, but Katie (Weismiller) wants everyone on the team exhibiting good ball control skill, including the six-foot plus players. Our coaches have introduced different ball control games (and consequences for not winning those games) to get us to compete with each other with our ball control. So far, I think that as a team we are ahead of where we were last year in our ball control.
We then worked on serving and passing. Matt (Affolder) has instructed us all to move way back from where we used to serve in order for us to produce a tougher serve. Today, we worked on really serving hard and aggressive, but in a specific zone. Hopefully, our new serving tactic will help us ace our opponents in our tournament this weekend.
We ended practice today with a scrimmage. Due to injuries, we could not play with a full line-up so Matt, Dottie (Porch), and our manager Chad (Grossman) had to show off their skills and play with us. It's pretty cool that our coaches are still in good enough shape and have the talent to compete with a bunch of college athletes.
