Hoosiers Set to Host Rival Purdue

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Indiana baseball team returns to the friendly confines of Sembower Field for a Big Ten series against arch rival Purdue, April 14-16. Indiana will host the opener against the Boilers on Friday, April 14, at 3 p.m., before a doubleheader on Saturday, April 15, starting at 1 p.m. The series finale is an Easter Sunday affair slated for 1 p.m.
A point in the AT&T Crimson and Gold Cup will be on the line when the intrastate foes square off. The Hoosiers currently lead the all-sport series between the two schools, 9-5.
Last Time Out
The Hoosiers used a five-run seventh inning to cap an 11-game road trip with 10-6 victory over Xavier at Hayden Field on April 12. IU erased a two-run deficit with its seventh inning surge. Indiana improved to 10-18 on the year.
Trailing 5-3 in the seventh, Indiana used four straight hits, including a pair of the extra-base variety, to put a five-spot on the board. IU tacked on single runs in the eighth and ninth innings for the final margin.
Senior Adam Poole pitched three scoreless innings to notch his first victory of the season. Junior Keith Haas led the Hoosiers, going 3-for-4 at the plate with two RBI, a pair of runs scored and three stolen bases. Freshman Cameron Satterwhite, senior Reggie Watson, senior Jay Brant and junior Steve Head each finished with two hits, while Satterwhite drove in two.
Scouting Purdue
Purdue used a Ryne White walk off home run to defeat Illinois State on April 12. The Boilermakers improved to 18-9 overall on the season. Purdue is 5-3 in Big Ten play entering the series with Indiana.
Mitch Hilligoss and Eric Wolfe have both started all 27 games for the Boilers and both are hitting at over a .400 clip. Hilligoss leads the team with a .408 average to go along with nine stolen bases, three home runs and 21 RBI. Wolfe leads the team with four home runs and 29 RBI, while hitting .404 on the campaign. As a team Purdue is hitting over .300 at .316. Jay Buente tops the Purdue starters in ERA at 2.72 to go along with a 4-1 record and 42 strick outs in 46 1/3 innings. Chris Toneguzzi sports the team's top ERA at 0.47 in 19 1/3 innings of work. He is also a perfect 4-0 on the year.
