Spring Football Practice Report - April 13

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Indiana turned in a productive 14th practice of the spring on Thursday, April 13 at Memorial Stadium. Sunny skies and 80 degree temperatures allowed the Hoosiers one final tuneup before Saturday's Cream and Crimson game at 4 p.m. at Memorial Stadium.
One of Indiana's primary objectives this spring is to develop a young offensive line. Senior center Chris Mangiero believes that these workouts have set a positive tone for the fall.
"We have a lot of young guys on the line and they are inexperienced," Mangiero said. "This gives us a chance to work together and work on the mental aspect of the game. They keep getting better every day and we have the whole summer to build them up."
Before the team breaks spring camp, they have the Cream and Crimson game this Saturday. This marks redshirt freshman defensive end Neal Jones' debut in the annual culmination of spring practice.
"This is my first spring practice and it has been good," Jones said. "After the offseason it is good to get out and go against each other. We are much further along this year than we were last year at this time with a new coaching staff. We all have a feel for what is expected this year."
Redshirt freshman wide receiver Andrew Means said that this camp has taught him more than the intricacies of the Hoosier offense.
"It is tough, you have to be on top of your game the whole spring," Means said. "The coaches expect a lot out of you just like in summer camp so you just have to be on top of your game the whole time. They aren't expecting anything less from you. Despite any mistakes you make you have to come out and play hard."
There are a variety of pregame activities leading up to the 4 p.m. kickoff at Memorial Stadium.
Bucceto's, Buffa Louie's and the local Coca-Cola distributor will provide free food and drinks to the first 1,000 fans at the Cream and Crimson spring game at Memorial Stadium on April 15 at 4 p.m. Coupons for the free food will be distributed at the center main gate near the elevators on the West Concourse of Memorial Stadium. Coupons are good only at Memorial Stadium on April 15. Bucceto's and Buffa Louie's will be located only on the West Concourse.
Our youngest Hoosier fans can visit the IU Kids' Zone from 2-3:45 p.m. The Kids' Zone is back for its third straight spring game and features an obstacle course, QB Toss, a caricature artist and other activities.
From April 11-13, IU fans will have the opportunity to play Hoosier Football Trivia on Bloomington-based WHCC-105.1 FM and WBWB-96.7 FM, and the first person to call in each day with the correct answer to the trivia questions earns the chance to kick a 35-yard field goal at halftime of Saturday's game. If they hit the field goal, they win a pair of season tickets for 2006.
