Hoosiers Fare Well in Opening Day of Mt. Sac Relays

WALNUT, Calif. - Four Indiana men's track and field distance athletes opened this weekend's competition in impressive style at the 48th annual Mt. Sac Relays at Hilmer Lodge Stadium in Walnut, Calif., on April 14. Brennon Plotner and Mark Fruin posted personal-best marks in the 1,500m and the 10,000m, respectively.
Plotner's time in the 1,5000m (3:52.86) earned him a 13th-place finish. The Ft. Wayne, Ind., product eclipsed his previous personal best by four seconds and recorded Indiana's fastest time in the event so far this season.
Fruin earned a personal best in the grueling 10,000m with a career-best mark of 30:41.48. The Elmhurst, Ind., native took IU's top finish of the night by coming in 12th. Teammate Tim McLeod took 24th in the event with a time of 32:19.46.
In the 800m, Evan Bardach turned in a time of 1:54.61. Bardach's time earned him a 31st-place finish. Bardach is slated to run the 800m on Friday at the Ponoma Pitzer Invitational in Claremont, Calif.
Several Hoosier distance runners are slated to compete at Friday's installment of the Mt. Sac Relays, while the majority of the track and field team will take part in the Sea Relays at the Tom Black Track in Knoxville, Tenn. Complete Mt. Sac Relay results can be found at http://www.mtsacrelays.com.
