BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Indiana volleyball team continued its spring season by winning the IU Spring Fling II on April 15. The Hoosiers opened with a 2-1 (30-16, 21-30, 16-14) conquest of Butler, before downing Western Kentucky 2-0 (32-30, 30-25). Indiana then knocked off Ball State 2-1 (30-24, 25-30, 15-11), before defeating Cincinnati 2-0 (30-28, 30-27). Indiana head coach Katie Weismiller sat down with IUHOOSIERS.com to talk about IU's third competition of the spring season.
What are your overall thoughts on the team after its third weekend of outside competition during the spring season?
KW: I thought we played great backcourt defense. We picked up a lot of balls defensively and got touches on balls we weren't getting to earlier this spring. Our passing was very strong, and allowed us to run quite a few different offensive plays.
Who stood out this weekend?
KW: Erica Short had another strong weekend. Sara Diehl, Juli Pierce and Kari Morgenstein, had a great day both passing and playing defense. Katie Murray really got into a flow running our offense this weekend.
Who surprised you the most?
KW: Gabby Allison, with her consistent jump serve and improved overall play this weekend.
What will you take out of this past weekend to help with the last three weeks of the spring schedule?
KW: Our team played great as a team. The chemistry was very good and we had different people step up at different times this past weekend. Every weekend we are getting stronger.
