BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Indiana head coach Ray Looze and the Indiana swimming and diving program announced the addition of Thiago (Chi-ah-go) de Oliveira Rebello (Frisco, Texas/Frisco). He joins Kevin Happ (Hunting Valley, Ohio/University School), Christopher Head (Evansville, Ind./North), Matt Lenton (Perth, Australia/John Septimus Roe Anglican), Tyler McGowan (Vincennes, Ind./Lincoln), Frazier Miller (Louisville, Ky./Saint Xavier), Chris Oleksiak (Greenwood, Ind./Center Grove), Jensen Ried (Cypress, Texas/Cypress Springs) and Drew Sease (Indianapolis, Ind./North Central) as part of the incoming competitive class for 2006.
"Thiago is a very versatile swimmer who has great underwater kicking ability," Looze said. "We look forward to coaching such a fine person."
A two-time All-American, Rebello helped Frisco High to a pair of Class 4A State Championships in 2005 and 2006. He also earned all-state accolades in the 100 back and 200 IM both years. Additionally, Rebello took 12th place in the 100 back at the 2004 Brazilian National Championships.
"I chose Indiana because it was the only university that gave me the opportunity to succeed both academically and athletically," Rebello said. "I have also heard great things about Indiana, and that motivated me to choose to be a Hoosier."
Meanwhile, the High School Heisman nominee picked up Who's Who Among High School Students acclaim away from the pool. He also earned a spot in the National Honor Society.
