IU Softball Honors Hoosier Alumni During Indiana-Iowa Series

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Indiana softball team will be honoring Hoosier alumni during its Big Ten doubleheader against Iowa on April 23. To open the festivities, IU Athletics Hall of Fame head coach Gayle Blevins will throw out the first pitch.
Blevins (1980-87), now the head coach at Iowa, can be attributed with building the solid foundation and legacy that IU softball has become known for since the early 80s. During her career, the IU Hall of Famer led the Hoosiers to their second Women's College World Series appearance in just her first year at the helm of the program. Blevins went on to take Indiana to three WCWS appearances (80, 83, 86), while capturing the Big Ten Championship title three times (83, 85-86). Blevins stepped down from the program with an overall record of 316-151-3 and is just one of seven Indiana head coaches overall to eclipse the 300-win mark during their careers.
With the Hawkeyes, Blevins has continued her winning tradition of excellence she started at Indiana. Overall, Blevins has taken the Hawkeyes to four Women's College World Series (95-97, 01), captured five Big Ten Conference titles and one Big Ten Tournament title.
"Coach Blevins has done a tremendous job not only at Indiana University and at Iowa, but she has also enhanced softball across the country with her work ethic and outstanding character," head coach Stacey Phillips said. "Without the work she has done to pave the way, the opportunities would not be so plentiful for the softball student-athletes, nor the coaches in the softball coaching ranks. Thank you to Gayle Blevins for all you have done for the softball world!"
Along with Indiana's legendary head coach, Blevins will be joined by numerous alumni from Indiana's tradition-rich history.
Along with the alumni festivities, Indiana softball and the IU marketing department will have many gift certificates and IU collectibles to give away during the game. To sign up to win, register at the Student Athletic Board table located at the main entrance of the IU Softball Field.
Hoosier fans are encouraged to help Indiana honor its alumni, while enjoying yet another exciting day at the ball park with IU softball.
Indiana welcomes Wisconsin on April 21-22, for a Big Ten series against the Badgers. Game times are set for 3 p.m., and noon on Friday and Saturday, respectively. On Sunday, Indiana opens its doubleheader against the Hawkeyes with a noon first pitch.
