BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Indiana volleyball team continues its spring season with competitions scheduled through the month of April. The Hoosiers are checking in with IUHOOSIERS.com from time to time to keep their fans abreast of how the spring season is going. Sophomore Gabrielle Allison reports in today.
Practice started at 6 a.m., with a little warm-up called ball tag. It is exactly like dodge ball except you can't move when the ball is in your hands. There are two teams, and you can get as close to our opponent as you want by passing to your teammates. We also are allowed to hit the opponents as hard we like, just not in the face.
We then moved to ball-control drills. We focused on maintaining correct form with a low posture as well as the consistency of putting the ball to target. Individual skills are improving as the spring season progresses. Our team chemistry is improving as well.
As practice continued, we went into hitting drills in order to work on our hitting efficiency. We then concluded practice with a scrimmage along with transition drills to prepare us for the competition in our tournament this weekend. Pleased with the progress we have made thus far, we continue to improve as we come to the conclusion of our spring season. This will be a great indicator on where we are as a team. It also allows us the opportunity to showcase our progress as we enter into some great competition in Illinois this weekend.
