Indiana Plays Host to Miami (Ohio)

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Concluding its 10-game homestand, the Indiana baseball team hosts Miami (Ohio) for a Tuesday matinee. The Hoosiers (14-23) and RedHawks (17-21) will meet at Sembower Field with a 3 p.m. first pitch.
Hoosier skipper Tracy Smith will face his former team for the first time. Smith spent the previous nine seasons as head coach at Miami, compiling 317 wins and ranking third on the school's all-time wins list.
Scouting Miami (Ohio)
Miami sits at 17-21 overall and 6-9 in the Mid-American Conference after getting swept by Kent State this past weekend. The RedHawks own a 5-17 road mark this season.
Southpaw Sam Shorts will take the mound against the Hoosiers. The senior brings a 3-1 record into the contest with a 1.35 ERA. Shorts has made four starts and appeared in 12 ballgames, allowing only six earned runs in 40 innings with 23 strikeouts and eight walks.
Offensively, the RedHawks carry a .275 batting average and are scoring over five runs per contest. Freshman third baseman Jordan Petraitis is one of three players over the .300 mark, posting a .331 average with three home runs, 23 RBI and 22 runs.
In addition, senior infielder Geoff Orr is hitting at a .327 clip and has matched Petraitis with three home runs and 23 RBI as well as scoring 28 times and carding eight doubles.

Game Notes
-Assistant coaches Ty Neal and Micah Nori also spent time in Oxford. Neal worked with the RedHawks in 2000 and 2005, while Nori spent 1998 as a graduate assistant and 1999 as an assistant coach.
-This is the 64th meeting between the two schools. Indiana holds a 35-28 lead in the all-time series, including a 5-2 victory in Oxford last season.
-Sophomore Doug Fleenor will make his first career start in today's contest.
-Senior Reggie Watson continues to lead the Big Ten in steals with 27, helping the Hoosiers remain atop the league with 99 stolen bases.
