BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Indiana volleyball team continues its spring season with competitions scheduled through the month of April. The Hoosiers are checking in with IUHOOSIERS.com from time to time to keep their fans abreast of how the spring season is going. Freshman Carrie Deal reports in today.
We began practice today at exactly 6 a.m., in the weight room in the basement of Assembly Hall. All spring, we have lifted three days a week with our strength coach Josh Eidson. However, since we are competing on the weekends, we will only lift twice a week for the remainder of the spring season. Our work in the weight room is really paying off. Our girls are jumping higher, hitting harder, and moving quicker.
After weights, we hustled over to the University School Gym where our coaches Matt (Affolder), Dottie (Porch) and Katie (Weismiller) were waiting for us to begin practice. We jumped on the court and began perfecting our skills. Today, we did a lot of overhand passing in hopes to incorporate that more into our game.
Afterwards, we worked on the offense through hitting lines while the defense got to work on a new blocking scheme. The offense was pulling out some new tricks and the defense was having a tough time reading the plays. Hopefully, we will be able to use our new offensive threats this weekend in match play.
At the end of practice, our assistant coach, Matt, said that he could see that we got better in today's practice. No matter what sport an athlete plays, getting better should always be the primary objective of practice. I think the girls felt good to hear that the coaches saw how hard we worked and appreciated the compliment a lot.
