Students Dine with Coach Hep

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - More than 20 student leaders, representing organizations throughout campus, visited Indiana's April 4 spring football practice and enjoyed dinner with the team afterwards. This is the second straight year that IU coach Terry Hoeppner invited student leaders to spring practice and dinner, which provides an opportunity for Hoeppner and the students to discuss ideas on increasing student attendance at "The Rock," Memorial Stadium.
The Hoosiers enjoyed a 110-percent increase in student season ticket sales last fall, but as Hoeppner has often said, "We are just scratching the surface of what we can do."
"Spring practice is going well. We're going to be a faster team this spring, and we're excited to have seven home games," Hoeppner said to the students. "If you were at the (Feb. 11 Indiana-) Iowa basketball game, you heard me say that if you help us defend the rock, and we win seven games, then we'll play 13. That means..a bowl game! And I am taking you with me.
"But you gotta do your part. We had a lot of fun at home games last year. This is a great university. That ought to be part of your experience here, Saturday afternoons at `The Rock.' "
Students can purchase their 2006 season tickets for $74. In addition to a season ticket for the exciting seven-game home schedule, students will receive a coupon for an adidas Crimson Crew T-Shirt and a $10 voucher for adidas apparel at the IU Varsity Shop or IU Bookstore.
Students can purchase their tickets at the Indiana Athletic Ticket Office (855-4006 or 866-IUSPORTS) or on their IU Bursar Account. Group seating is also available for groups of 20-or-more students.
The students in attendance appreciate the close interaction with the program, and they hope that it is a sign of more things to come.
"This was definitely beneficial. We can all go back to our organizations and tell them what we heard," Alpha Gamma Delta's Pam Newman. "We do not do this often enough and would love to do more."
Lambda Chi Alpha's Nick Foust said that these functions are a great incentive to buy season tickets.
"It is great to meet the coaches and players," Foust said. "It means more to attend the games if you get to know some of the people involved."
Indiana continues its preparation for the April 8 Pancakes 'n' Pigskins scrimmage. Breakfast will be served at 8:30 a.m., as adults can purchase pancakes, sausage, orange juice and coffee for $5, and kids 12 and under can buy breakfast for $3.
The Kids Zone is back for its second straight Pancakes 'n' Pigskin and features various interactive inflatables and other activities.
Admission to the 10 a.m. intrasquad scrimmage is free and includes a halftime talk with Coach Hoeppner and player and coach autograph session on the field after the scrimmage.
IU's 2006 spring season concludes with the annual Cream and Crimson intrasquad game on April 15 at 4 p.m. at Memorial Stadium.
IU season ticket holders will also have the opportunity to renew their season tickets before the April 17 priority deadline to save 10 percent off the price of an adult ticket. Please call 855-4006 or 866-IUSPORTS for more information.
