Spring Football Player Profile - Bryan Payton

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Spring practice provides an objective gauge of improvement gained from spring practice. Redshirt freshman running back Bryan Payton sees spring practice as the time to continue to learn his role on the team, and as his opportunity to compete for a spot on the field next season. The young Hoosier took time out to speak with IUHOOSIERS.com after practice.
"In general, I think practice is going pretty well," Payton said. "We still have a learning curve with this being a young group. We expect to be really good this year, and right now I think we're doing a pretty good job. We've had some off days, but we'll make that up once we know what we're doing."
Payton is part of a talented redshirt freshman class eager to make an impact.
"I think the redshirts are playing well," Payton said. "We're all out there to compete playing with a sense of urgency and playing fast and hard. We might make some mistakes, but we're going to show the coaches that we're not going to let up. We're doing everything we can to get ourselves on the field."
Payton is confident that the Hoosiers will meet their spring practice goals.
"I'd say, by the end of spring practice, we'll be able to play to our full potential and to play up to speed," Payton said. "I think we have a lot of talent and we'll know our spots. That's the goal for this spring practice. That's what we set, and I think we'll make that goal."
Indiana continues its preparation for the April 8 Pancakes 'n' Pigskins scrimmage. Breakfast will be served at 8:30 a.m., as adults can purchase pancakes, sausage, orange juice and coffee for $5, and kids 12 and under can buy breakfast for $3.
The Kids Zone is back for its second straight Pancakes 'n' Pigskin and features various interactive inflatables and other activities.
Admission to the 10 a.m. intrasquad scrimmage is free and includes a halftime talk with Coach Hoeppner and player and coach autograph session on the field after the scrimmage.
IU's 2006 spring season concludes with the annual Cream and Crimson intrasquad game on April 15 at 4 p.m. at Memorial Stadium.
