Another Milestone for a Legendary Coach

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - In his 29 years as head coach of the women's tennis team, Lin Loring has built quite a resume and recently reached a milestone to add to it. With a 5-2 win over Wisconsin on April 2, Loring earned his 300th Big Ten victory as head coach. This win comes in the midst of a season where the Hoosiers find themselves at 14-5 overall and 4-1 in league play.
As of April 2, Loring's overall career Big Ten record stands at 300-61, which calculates to a winning percentage of .831. He boasts an overall record of 632-220 while he's been at the helm of the Hoosiers. For his entire career in coaching tennis, Loring boasts a record of 674-237. The conference and overall wins makes Loring the winningest coach in Big Ten and NCAA history.
Loring has enjoyed the wins that have come with his coaching career, but he also is proud of other achievements that have resulted from his coaching at Indiana, especially graduating his players.
"I am most proud of the fact that everyone who has used up their eligibility (at Indiana) has a college degree," Loring said. "In 29 years here, we have actually never had a player not graduate or be ineligible even for one semester."
Loring continues to enjoy the experiences coaching student athletes bring. With all the success the women's tennis program has had, Loring thinks that not only are his players excelling on the court and classroom, he feels life lessons are learned as well.
"They know that less than one percent of college tennis players play professionally. They are seeing tennis as an avenue to get a degree," Loring said. "Tennis is a way for them to get a great education, work in a team setting, develop leadership qualities, and gain a competitive edge."
