ANN ARBOR, Mich. - The Indiana softball team fell in game two of the series against No. 12 Michigan, 4-0, in Ann Arbor, Mich., on April 9, at Alumni Field. IU registered four hits in the contest, but could not bring a runner home against a solid Wolverine fielding unit.
With the loss, Indiana fell to 18-15-1 on the season, while Michigan improved to 24-9 on the year.
Michigan jumped on the scoreboard first, scoring in the top of the second. The Wolverines continued to apply early pressure on the Hoosiers, placing six on base in the first four innings. In the face of runners in scoring position, the Hoosier fielding unit held Michigan at bay, allowing only one run and stranding five through four frames.
Michigan, however, extended its advantage with a two-run fifth inning and an insurance run in the top of the six to take a 4-0 lead in the ballgame.
Despite four hits on the afternoon for Indiana, the Hoosiers could not score a run to give the Wolverines the series sweep with a 4-0 game-two victory.
Indiana concludes its weekend series in the state of Michigan with a doubleheader against Michigan State on April 9, in East Lansing. First pitch is set for noon.
