BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Former Indiana linebacker Kyle Killion signed a rookie free agent contract with the Indianapolis Colts. Killion, who started the final 34 games of his Hoosier career and ranks sixth in school history with 323 career tackles, is among 18 former college standouts with an opportunity to make the Colts' roster.
Killion joins former college teammates defensive end Victor Adeyanju (St. Louis Rams' fourth round pick) and offensive lineman Isaac Sowells (Cleveland Browns' fourth round pick) as the third member of Indiana Football's Class of 2005 to earn a professional playing opportunity. And while each player is going to a different pro team, Indiana head coach Terry Hoeppner points to the common denominator - a good fit.
"During his time in Indiana, Kyle had become a Colts' fan, so this is a dream come true for him," Hoeppner said. "I spoke with (Colts') Coach (Tony) Dungy at length last week about Kyle. Kyle is excited, and I am excited for him because it is a good fit."
Killion started the first eight games of the 2005 season at outside linebacker before a hand injury to John Pannozzo forced him back to middle linebacker against Minnesota, Michigan and Purdue. He finished with 91 tackles on the year, including 10 tackles against Minnesota, a career-high 13 at Michigan and finished with 12 tackles against Purdue.
