Hoosiers Square Off Against No. 3 Longhorns

AUSTIN - With one win under its belt, the Indiana softball team draws No. 3 Texas (50-7) as its next opponent in the second game of the Austin Regional on May 20, at Red and Charline McCombs Field in Austin. The Hoosiers (30-23-1) look to be the third team in the last two weeks to topple the Longhorns, who were dismissed in consecutive games at the Big 12 Tournament.
UT fell in the opening round of the Big 12 Tournament to un-seeded Oklahoma State, 1-0, before falling to then-No. 13 Texas A&M, 5-0, to be eliminated. The loss to the Aggies spelled the worst loss for All-American Cat Osterman, who gave up two home runs in the shutout loss, one of which was a grand slam. In all, Texas has lost three of their last eight.
Indiana on the other hand is riding late-season success, winning 10 of their last 13 games. The impressive mark is in large part due to a team batting average of a .270 during that span. The season-ending push also included a season-low 1.23 team ERA, including 104 strikeouts during that time.
Both teams opened the Austin Regional on high notes, as IU toppled Utah, 3-0, before Texas handled cross-state rival UTSA, 4-0, on May 19.
The Indiana vs. Texas battle is slated for a 1 p.m. (CT) first pitch, while the UTSA vs. Utah matchup will follow at 3:30 p.m. The winner of that game will face the loser of the IU/UT contest at 6:30 p.m.
